Records of the Chair of the Faculty, 1962-2000 (Series 6).

Records, 1966-2000, include general correspondence of the chair of the faculty with other faculty members and with university administrators; agendas, minutes, and resolutions relating to faculty meetings; and the chair's files on standing and special committees of the faculty. The latter consist of correspondence, scattered minutes, and reports of the committees to the Faculty Council. Included is a file dated 1970-1971 on the student strike during the Vietnam War. Chairs who figured prominently in these records include Corydon P. Spruill, Frederic N. Cleaveland, Daniel A. Okun, George V. Taylor, and Richard (Pete) Andrews.

Frederic N. Cleaveland (1915-2005) served as Assistant Dean of Men at Duke University from 1937-1941 and as Provost and professor of political science from 1971-1979. In the interim, he was a professor of political science and researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
